A 38 year-old man from Stockholm has been sentenced to five years in prison for selling false advertisements. He was sentenced for ´gross fraud´ and the reason for this harsh sentence is the scale of his bluff. More than 100 million SEK was drawn from the advertisers.

According to Dagens Nyheter, the scam went on from 1999 until 2006. Officially it was a number of companies where the 38 year-old´s friends were registered as responsible. In practice, it was the 38 year-old man who coordinated the whole scam.

It was through all these companies that he could sell fake advert places to companies, municipalities and even private associations and clubs.

The plan was to sell adverts in made-up catalogues. It was quite successful. The man earned more the 100 million SEK (9.1 million euros).

According to Dagens Nyheter it is unusual with such harsh sentences for frauds. The main reason here is the high amount of money that the 38 year-old succeeded to get through his scam and that it was carefully planned.
